In March the SMPS South Florida Chapter announced the details to win the Connie Williams Memorial Scholarship.  Members with a minimum of one year of membership, in good standing, had the opportunity to go to Build Business our SMPS National Conference July 30 to August 1, 2014 in San Antonio Texas by submitting an essay to the board of directors explaining how the conference would help the applicant’s career development.   The deadline to apply was May 1, 2014.

The Connie William Memorial Scholarship is tribute to a loving friend, wife and mother, Connie passed away in 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. It is in her honor that we named our Scholarship to inspire other SMPS members and provide them with the opportunity to excel personally and professionally through further engagement in SMPS.

Connie Williams was an all-star member/ board member who served the SMPS South Florida Chapter for over a decade. During that time she was an invaluable member to several board administrations. She was always willing to take on any task for the greater good of the organization. The chapter made great strides while she was part of our leadership. Connie’s gentle and welcoming spirit coupled with her mentoring of fellow board members embodied the true essence of our organization.  Connie served in many roles on our board including, Secretary, Treasurer and Programs Co- Chair.

Our chapter’s selection committee carefully reviewed all applications for the scholarship and have selected Susan Hernandez as the recipient of the 2014 Connie William Memorial Scholarship.

Susan A. Hernandez has been involved in the A/E/C community for over 20 years. A natural multi-tasker, her positions have varied from Director of Business Development, Marketing Coordinator, Certification Specialist and Executive Assistant. Currently Susan is the Director of Marketing for BCC Engineering, Inc.

Susan is a creative thinker and her ability to build and maintain client relations have made her a well-known figure in the A/E/C community.  Susan embraces the A/E/C community and can be found attending seminars and conferences held by the A/E/C professional societies.
